Interview 6

JOB TITLE: Blogger/Youtuber/Cashier

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Writing/photography/videography

MiMi: How many children do you have? What are their names and ages?

LYNDSEY: I always love saying both his first and middle name, because it just sounds perfect to me. When he’s asked what his name is, he always says Donovan Jonas Marshall (he he). Anyway, I also have two soon to be; step children as well. Chloe Hamlin is 7  and David Hamlin is 6. I love them both as much as I love Donovan. They don’t get treated any differently.

MiMi: Do you feel the roles of women have changed in regards to work and family over the years?

LYNDSEY: I definitely feel the roles of women have changed tremendously. I believe that women can be anything they want, whether they want to work from home, which I hope to do someday; or being able to work at a company and still be able to have time for family. Family should be more important than any job, but we still need to be able to provide a financially stable income to do things with family.

MiMi: What are some of the challenges you have faced as a working mom? How have you managed to cope?

LYNDSEY: Some of the challenges I have faced is: I’ve had to see Donovan cry when I first went back to work a few months after having him. I hated it, but I was a single mom and needed to provide for him…so I did the best I could and still managed my time at home with him.

MiMi: When you find the time, what activities do you like to engage in as a family?

LYNDSEY: When I have time with my family, we go to church. We want our children to grow up knowing that God provides for us all. We also go out to eat a couple times a month, we’ll have special activities at church, and just being able to spend time with our friends as well.

MiMi: What does meal time look like for the Marshall household?

LYNDSEY: Actually, I’ll be taking my soon to be husband’s name. It’s the Marshall-Hamlin household, even though; Donovan will be the only Marshall  in the household, he’s the only boy on my side of the family that will be carrying on the last name. Anyway…when it comes to meals, Donovan and I usually have breakfast and lunch together. The days I’m off work, Tyler will cook and just the 3 of us will have dinner together. When I do work, Tyler will watch Donovan and just cook something for the two of them. When we have Chloe and David on the weekends, Tyler will cook  maybe once or twice, because sometimes we’ll go out or go to his parent’s for dinner. Another day we’ll just fend for ourselves. I’ve actually been letting the kids make their own food depending on what it is.

MiMi: If you had 1 piece of advice to give a mother who finds it a challenge to balance career and family, what would it be?

LYNDSEY: One piece of advice I would give any other working mom would be: not to give up and keep going. Ellen Degeneres says it best “just keep swimming”. Just keep going and don’t give up. I will admit, I have been depressed a few times, but I’ve overcame it, and I feel much better. I am focusing on what I love doing, so to keep going; focus on what you love, and everything will fall into place.

MiMi: Thank you for being apart of My Working Mom series, and hats off to all you moms who work and take care of family.

Lindsey: I hope that any other moms reading this, can motivate themselves and gain the energy to want to be an inspiration to others, like I hope to be doing also. I may not be a professional at what I do, but I’m doing the best I can and providing for my family, while sharing the things I love. My motto and brand is: “I am to be a creative inspiration”. Thank you so much for connecting with me and letting me be apart of your series, and I look forward to seeing this and more on your site.
