Interview 28

MiMi: How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?
Katherine: 1 son, named Teoman who is 1 year old.
MiMi: What are some of the struggles you face as a working mom? How have you been able to cope with these challenges?
Katherine: Time juggling. I’m lucky to be able to raise my son at home. I am a mummy by day and a graphic designer by night. My workday begins when my son goes to bed. Yes, it’s hard but I wouldn’t be the successful mother that I am if I didn’t have a purpose outside of parenting. I want to enjoy every minute with my little boy, it already goes to fast! Figuring out the balance has been key to managing to run a business and look after my boy.
MiMi: Do you feel the roles of women have changed over the years, in regards to working outside the home? If so, how?
Katherine: Yes, but I think it completely varies from relationship to relationship. My marriage is quite traditional because that’s the way our careers allow us to live. My husband is the main breadwinner and that has given me the opportunity to cut back my hours as and when I need without sacrificing our lifestyle.
MiMi: What activities do you like to engage in with your family when you find the time?
Katherine: We do a lot of outdoor activities, playing on the beach, dinners in town, but also love a quiet weekend at home
MiMi: If you could offer just 1 piece of advice to a mother who finds it difficult to work outside
the home and take care of family, what would it be?
Katherine: Time management is the key to finding a happy balance between taking care of family and your career. That balance is different for everyone and I don’t believe there is a right or a wrong.
MiMi: Thank you so much for being a part of my Working Mom Series.
Katherine: Thank you for having me.
