NAME: M.C. WALKER
JOB TITLE: AUTHOR AND FREELANCE WRITER
MiMi: How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?
M.C. Walker: I have 2 boys, Khamani is 13 and Terrence jr is 6 years old.
MiMi: What are some of the struggles you face as a working mom? How have you been able to cope with some of these challenges?
M.C. Walker: I struggled with trying to have a social life, building a career, and being an exemplary mom for my boys. For many years, I hit the wall because I suffered from other peoples criticisms, and I often fell short of my own expectations. I took missed opportunities as ways to improve my relationships with my children.
MiMi: Do you feel the roles of women have changed in regards to working outside the home? How so?
M.C. Walker: I don’t think the roles of women have changed over the years. I think women are living outside of the confirming box of society and we embrace it with conviction.
MiMi: What activities do you like to engage in when you find the time?
M.C. Walker: I like to watch movies with my kids. I find that we have the best times when we’re not juggling our day to day routine. When we’re able to relax, Life flows better.
MiMi: If you could offer just 1 piece of advice to a mother who finds it difficult to work outside the home and take care of family, what would it be?
M.C. Walker: My 1 piece of advice would be: find a way to connect what you love and turn it into an income. That business should compliment your life, and not strain your existence.
MiMi: Thank you so much for being a part of my working mom series!
