Interview 21

MiMi: How many children do you have? What are their names and ages?
Ashlee: I have one son Kingston, he is 8 mos.
MiMi: What challenges do you face as a mom who works outside the home and takes care of family?
Ashlee: There’s never enough hours in the day. I only have one kid so far, so I have no idea how you mama’s do it multiple! By the time I  come home from work I only have a limited amount of time to spend with my son before he goes to bed, so I sometimes find it hard to get anything done because I feel guilty for taking more time away from him.
MiMi: How have you been able to cope with this challenge?
Ashlee: Time management. As soon as he goes down for a nap, I get to work… whether it’s cleaning, working out, whatever it is; and I don’t stop till he is awake. I basically don’t sit down all day. I’m always doing something until bed time, but…that is the life of a mom right?
MiMi: What are some of the activities you like to engage in with your son when you find the time?
Ashlee: He is young, so it’s mainly a lot of play time right now. We recently started him in swimming lessons, and I do my best to make it to every lesson I can, even if it means it’s my lunch hour.
MiMi: If you had 1 piece of advice to offer a working mom on coping with the challenges of raising children and working outside the home what would it be?
Ashlee: Don’t let other people’s situations make you feel bad, guilty, or like you aren’t doing enough! We are all doing the best we can! Your kids will remember the quality time you spent with them over the quantity, so just make it count!
MiMi: Thank you Ashlee for being a part of my Working Moms Series!
