NAME: JACLYN DAY
JOB TITLE: ANNUAL GIVING MANAGER
VOLUNTEER WORK AT LOCAL NON PROFIT
MiMi: How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?
Jaclyn: (name undisclosed) Just 1 little boy, he is 5.
MiMi: What challenges do you face as a mom who works outside the home and takes care of family?
Jaclyn: Child care always seems to be the biggest issue when something changes. For example: my son starts kindergarten this fall (YAY!) but next summer I have to figure out what options are available to me during the summer for childcare.
MiMi: How have you been able to cope with these challenges?
Jaclyn: I’m fortunate, there are many working mothers in my field. Many of them have helped me navigate what it means to be a working mom and have given me great guidance over the years.
MiMi: What are some of the activities you like to engage in with your child when you find the time?
Jaclyn: I’ve been trying to take advantage of our local resources. We enjoy going to the public library and spending time there. We also spend a lot of time at public parks (with and without playgrounds).
MiMi: If you had one piece of advice to give a working mom on coping with the challenges of raising children and working outside the home, what would it be?
Jaclyn: It’s okay not to have it all together. I’ve made peace with the fact that I can’t be perfect at everything at all times (even if it means I sweep more floors on the weekends and not during the week!)
MiMi: Thank you Jaclyn for participating in my Working Mom Series!
